Identify the correct title
Depending on the qualification and position, a skilled-worker permit, an EU Blue Card or another employment route may be suitable. The most appropriate legal basis should be identified before applying.
Do not confuse search rights with full employment
The job-search Opportunity Card permits employment only within its statutory limits. A new full-time position should not be started until it is covered by the current document or the required permission has been granted.
Prepare these documents
- passport, Opportunity Card and supplementary sheet
- employment contract or binding draft
- Declaration of Employment (Erklärung zum Beschäftigungsverhältnis)
- qualification and recognition documents
- job description where the role is not self-explanatory
- health insurance and proof of residence in Berlin
- confirmation of the online application
Apply before expiry
Employer documents, recognition questions or involvement of the Federal Employment Agency can take time. Save the application confirmation immediately.
The 20-hour allowance under a search Opportunity Card is not the same as unrestricted permission to start any full-time job.
